Wisconsin -- farm days

We spent lots of time on Clario Farms, the organic farm owned and run by my sister-in-law Claire and her husband Mario (and 7-mo-old Nina does her part, too). Weeding, and picking strawberries, raspberries, beans, patty pan squash, and lettuce were all novelties for us, and we threw ourselves into it with a will.

Nice red barns.

Evening approaches.

A pailful of strawberries, destined to be mushed and served on pancakes.

Where raspberries come from -- raspberry factories. I mean plants!

Beautiful sun-warmed raspberries -- lots never make it into the house. Sometimes temptation is too hard to resist.

Living in clover.

Beautiful, healthy hollyhocks. I'm so jealous. Kewanee and Door Counties have been experiencing drought for two years now, so damp leaves are not a problem. Well, it is a problem (we passed a sign that read "Pray for rain.") but not for the hollyhocks.

Lambs, destined this fall to become lovingly raised, free-range, grass-fed chops and roasts. Place your orders now! (Seriously! Visit http://clariofarms.com/?p=50 .)

Not forgetting Nina!
